Hall Pass

This was the scene we were greeted with when we first entered the building and, after a brief and cautious walk through, the first shot I took that afternoon.

The building Brian Matiash and I shot was the theater for the school’s campus. The theater itself is flanked on either side by corridors lined with rooms that probably served as offices.

If I didn’t know the history of the school I would assume the campus was that of a school that simply closed and has been neglected. It happens all the time. Unfortunately, I do know something of the history. It was established in 1922 as a “school” for the “mentally defective.” It was a little disingenuous to call it a “school,” since little or no education actually took place.

More later.
