Meet the Flintstones

Cheesy title: check. Compelling image: I hope so.
Seriously, it was hard to look at this scene without thinking of the second longest running prime time animated show in television history (at least the last time I checked). Second only to The Simpsons, The Flintstones ran from 1960 to 1966 on ABC in prime time.
If you replace that crane looking thing in the background with a brontosaurus, I think you have Mr. Slate’s quarry.
Oh, and about the image β¦ Its the same quarry I’ve been shooting on my way home from work recently. Its what is on the other side of this little berm.
I’ve always been an advocate of shooting the same scene over and over again to hone your skills, study the affects of different lighting conditions and learn the capabilities of your equipment. I guess this is such an example. I’ve tried to capture this scene a couple of times before but wasn’t happy with the results. I decided to pop by on Monday night on my way home. The cold cloudless winter night turned out to be the right formula for me.
Oh, and for the record, since I got you are thinking Flintstones … For me, Betty over Wilma.
What a shot dude!!
Great shot! 10 stop ND? Betty for me too. No contest.
I love the star trails! One more vote for Betty. π
Love those star trails!
Definitely Betty. Just like Mary Ann.
Star trails are awesome.
Thanks guys …
Mike T, no 10stop, Its a 9 bracket HDR. Longest exposure was about 2 minutes.
Mary Ann for me, too.
Great shot, and I am definitely in the Betty corner!
Betty was hot, no doubt about it Bob. But, this image is hotter! I love it, my friend, perfect composition and TONS of great details to keep the viewer captivated. I love the trucks off to the right in the distance there… just one of those details that creates so much drama and interest. Top drawer!
Betty as well! Great point on revisiting the same composition. Great image Bob.
Wilma – I’m a sucker for Red Heads π – Shot is awesome, love the way the star trails seem to progress in length with your longer exposures.
Betty and Mary Ann, for me, preferably at the… never mind.
I love the lighting on this. It gives the scene an otherworldly glow. Makes me want to get out at night more often.
I didn’t realize that Gilligan’s Island was part of the poll. Given that fact, I’ll take Mrs. Howell any day! π
Flintstones: Betty.
Archie Comics: Veronica.
Gilligan’s Island. Mary Ann.
Three’s Company: Janet
New BSG: Eight/Athena/Boomer.
Best Sarah Connors: Lena Headey
Wait. What was the question?
Mmmmm, Lena Headey
Great image and well done for being so patient. The light trails have come out a treat – the HDR gives them a nice meteor quality. Superb work my friend!
Thanks Mark, for the comment and for bring us back for TVLand π
This is great, Bob, and your taste in cartoon wives is impeccable too. Come to think of it, my wife looks extremely like Betty Rubble.
