Spikes

This past December I went on a brief, very cold shoot through a local rail yard with Steven Perlmutter, my friend and partner in the Historic Mills Photography Workshops (Sign up now!).
When I say brief and cold, I mean the cold was the reason for the brief. I don’t think either of us thought it was as cold as it was until we got out there in the open.
Anyway, i think I stole this subject from Steven, if not the comp itself. I saw him hovering around this bucket of spikes and went to check it out. Then I joined the fun.
I shot it with my Olympus OM-D. It was the first time I went on a shoot with it exclusively. I have to say, I rather liked the freedom of walking around with a small, light camera.
The down side is I was still unfamiliar with the camera functions. Don’t ask me how, but sometime on that shoot I accidentally managed to change my ISO setting from 200 to 6400. You guessed it. This one was one of the 6400 shots.
Surprisingly, the noise wasn’t bad! I did run some noise reduction on the final image which contributed to the slightly painterly feel.
You really nailed this shot Bob. Nice work.
