The Blacksmith’s Work Bench

I tried a number of compositions of this workbench but ultimately this is my favorite shot from last Saturday’s shoot at the Blacksmith shop.  I started with the contrast of the hard iron tools against the wood.  Then incorporated the cabinet with the chalk writing to the right. But it was the drawer below the surface of the bench that completed this composition for me.

Below is a bonus image from the shop. I posted it to Facebook on Saturday, but thought it made sense to post it here for some perspective.

This isn’t the last you’ll see of the Blacksmith shop. On Friday, it will come to life when tow professional blacksmiths will don period costumes and bring this shop to life for another Trails and Sails event. I’ll be there in the morning to photograph some real 19th century style forging!

We’re going to party like its 1899!
