Webb Lake, Weld Maine

This week I’m taking you all back to one of my favorite places on earth. I know, it’s a bold statement. There are so many places on this planet that challenge the concept of reality. But note that I said “my favorite,” not the most incredible or the most beautiful. Although this place is beautiful. It is a little lake in a little town in the big state of Maine.

Webb Lake in Weld, Maine is a jewel of a lake cradled in the mountains of Central Maine. The town itself is about a blink of the eye in size. If it wasn’t your destination, you would drive right through it without giving it a second thought.

But I grew up on this lake. It was my childhood vacation spot. Two weeks every summer my family and a rotating cast of extended family and friends swam and fished in the lake, climbed the mountains and rumbled down the dusty logging roads exploring the countryside. Great memories.

Anyway, the images this week are all from the lake and surrounding areas. They were all taken almost ten years ago when I brought my own family here for a week at the inn. I found the images hiding in a directory on my machine over the weekend. They were taken with my first DSLR, a Nikon D70. But with no real grasp of digital post-processing, they languished there. Until this weekend, that is. A little Photoshop love, mixed with onOne Software and Nik SilverEfex Pro, and the images became new.

Most of the images I recovered I wound up converting to black and white This one worked best in color —  Sunset over Tumbledown Mountain.

  1. Dear Mr Lussier,
Your work is truly creative. Your choice of angle and the way you capture light make your photographs stunning.
I am writing to inquire if you have more to share from Webb Lake. It is also my favorite place on the planet. We have saved a wall in our home for the past 25 years for just the right photo of our lake. We just haven’t been able to find the one.
We are hoping you may have IT.
Thank you for your time and sharing your gift.
    Sincerely,
    Rebecca Leeman
