Bath Covered Bridge

I spent last weekend driving and hiking my way around the White Mountains of New Hampshire. It was a productive and invigorating experience.

I started my Saturday with an exploratory hike into Flume Gorge I had never been in there in winter but thought the frozen river and deep narrow gorge might make for some cool winter shooting. I didn’t expect to spend almost two hours photographing crazy people climbing up pillars of ice. But there they were. The day ended with a sunset shoot from Sugar Hill — a sunset that I almost missed. More on both of those stories (and images) next week.

So this image …

Sandwiched between photographing at Flume Gorge and Sugar Hill was a drive to Bath, New Hampshire, home of New Hampshire’s longest covered bridge which stretches about 374 feet across the Ammonoosuc River. The bridge is incredibly photogenic any time of year, but after shooting it last weekend, I think my preference is winter.
