Day 54: American Bandana
I learned a lesson early on in this daily photo exercise. There were a couple of times when I spotted something that I thought would make a decent photo, but drove right past it. My thinking was, I can catch it another time. I’d return as quickly as an hour later to find the conditions had completely changes. For example, a random, compelling street scene I noticed in passing a few weeks ago — randomly placed discarded couches next to a house in a run-down neighborhood.
I didn’t stop. I continued on to do my errands. I thought, “I’ll stop on my way home.” And I did — only to find a car parked in front of that interesting configuration.
It wouldn’t have been a WOW shot, by any stretch of the imagination. But in doing this thing — trying to meet the challenge of coming up with a usable image every day — not stopping for an opportunity can ruin my day.
So I heeded that lesson.
Today, while driving into Lawrence to do some street photography, I passed this Dodge truck with this interesting home-made grill ornament. Since I had never seen anything like it, I stopped.
What is this, some kind of series?
Yes, it is! Throughout 2017 I’m attempting to take a new image every day and post it to this blog. Ambitious, I know. Success is not guaranteed, but I’ll give it my all. You can see all of the images below. Just click on a thumbnail and flip through them.
