Day 197: 7 Chemical and Engine

In 2017-365 by Robert Lussier0 Comments

On my scouting mission last night I passed this small firehouse nestled in one of Lawrence’s neighborhoods. I noticed the exterior was in need of some TLC, particularly the sign above the bays, “7 Chemical and Engine”. But I was heartened to see a single fireman sitting in the open bay doorway enjoying the day. It told me, of course that the station was still operational, since the city had seen so many cutbacks in recent years. It isn’t about the station’s aesthetics, its about the manpower.

Since I had already grabbed my image when I passed here yesterday, I made a mental note to return today. I was thrilled to find two firefighters sitting where there was only one yesterday. I parked, walked up, introduced myself and told them about my project. They graciously (but reluctantly) agreed to stay put while I grabbed a couple of frames.

What is this, some kind of series?

Yes, it is! Throughout 2017 I’m attempting to take a new image every day and post it to this blog. Ambitious, I know. Success is not guaranteed, but I’ll give it my all. You can see all of the images below. Just click on a thumbnail and flip through them.
