Day 250: Back At It
I haven’t written about it here or on Facebook (where I post all of these daily images), but a new health issue I developed in July has forced me to take a hiatus from running. Over a few days I developed a swollen right knee, achy shoulders and overall weakness in my upper arms, core muscles and thighs. I tried to dismiss it for a few weeks, convinced it would go away. I loaded up on Advil and tried to go about my business. I even squeezed in a week long trip to Berlin at the end of July.
During that time the symptoms gradually worsened. When I got back, I went to my Doctor to start the process of diagnosing the issue. Since then I have been on a steady diet of Prednisone. It puts my symptoms at ease, allowing me to move and feel like a normal person.
Today I got the news that my ailment is “inflammatory arthritis.” Basically, chronic bilateral inflammation affecting the proximal muscles. When the symptoms come out in full force it greatly limits my mobility. Plus, it is damned painful.
There is a chance that this form of arthritis can go into remission (fingers crossed). And if it does, there is a good chance I may never see it again (fingers double crossed).
Anyway, now that there is a diagnosis, the next step to find the right medication to treat this thing (and get off the prednisone). It is also time to start reclaiming my fitness.
Back at it.
What is this, some kind of series?
Yes, it is! Throughout 2017 I’m attempting to take a new image every day and post it to this blog. Ambitious, I know. Success is not guaranteed, but I’ll give it my all. You can see all of the images below. Just click on a thumbnail and flip through them.
