Off Limits

This is, by far,  my favorite image from Beelitz Hospital Complex in Berlin. But it's not just the image, it's the back story.

We were not supposed to be here. This stairway wasn't on the tour. But I had a good guide.

"Luis" (his real first name) was photographing this facility long before it was legal to do so. He knows the facility like the back of his hand. So when our tour guide was leading the tour group in one direction, he lead me in another. We went over a barrier, up the stairs and through a conveniently unlocked door to this iconic staircase.

Thank you, Luis!
