Back in 2016 I had the opportunity to photograph Bowlmor Bowling Alley in Mattapoisett, MA. The local landmark had barely changed since first opening its doors sometime in the 1950s. I’m sure the lanes had been re-done a few times, but other than that, Bowlmor could easily be mistaken for a set on Happy Days.
You can read my original post here. In it I talk about my four year wait to get inside and the hospitality of my good friends, the Coughlin, who kept an eye out for open hours. They joined me that day for a string.
We arrived early. Fran Coughlin told the high school kid manning the register, “We wanted to beat the rush.”
The kid replied, “You *are* the rush.”
Shortly after that shoot, Bowlmor closed its doors to repair the roof. The expectation was that they would re-open. They did not.
Last week I received a text informing me that Bowlmor was no more. It had succumbed to the bulldozer’s blade.
Damn, I loved this series, nice work Robert
