Without the benefit of affordable space travel, I suspect this is the closest I will ever get to seeing the surface of Mars in person. This was the location of our last sunrise shoot on the trip — at least for some of the guys. I opted to to shoot at the giant butte with the guys flying drones. The rest of the guys came here, where we met them just after sunrise.
When we did get here, I was too overwhelmed by the surreal beauty of the landscape to be jealous of those in the crew who saw the sun rise from this incredible location. With the sun was still low enough in the sky to render dramatic shadows, I frantically ran around looking for compositions. There was a bit of a “spray and pray” feel to my experience, but I did slow down longe enough to think through a couple of scenes. This is one of them.
